Single shaft shredders are a compromise between knife mills and twin shaft crushers. It's possible to crush bulky waste, and the size of the output flakes is determined by the holes in the screen. They are suitable for crushing waste, where the granularity of the output needs to be defined. It is often used for large blocks of material (plastics), in the wood and furniture industry, mixed plastics or when pre-crushing cables.
The crusher rotor is fitted with prismatic knives. Knives have four blades. After dulling one, the blades will spin. The waste is pressed by hydraulic pressure on the crushing rotor. Crushed waste falls out of the crusher through a screen. Flakes can be transported further pneumatically or mechanically (screw conveyor). The crusher is suitable for output with granulometry from 20 mm and above. Even lower granulometry can be achieved, depending on the material.
